There are 10 LNG export projects with a combined 101 MMt/y of capacity under construction in the US, Canada and Mexico. Two have already started production and three more could follow in 2025. Looking further ahead, there are nearly three dozen proposed LNG export projects with a combined capacity of more than 300 MMt/y from Alaska to Argentina. Not all of those projects will reach a final investment decision (FID) but a handful have momentum that could nudge them toward securing funding.
Meanwhile, new governments are taking power in the US, Canada, Mexico and Argentina with a lighter regulatory touch expected for the LNG industry. Contracting activity shows that liquefaction fees are rising amid inflation, labor shortage and other factors. Droughts in South America have increased LNG spot demand forcing buyers to compete with Europe and Asia for volumes.
