LNG financings hit record high levels last year as an unprecedented six US export projects went to FID. Globally, LNG ship and import project financings also saw a vigorous deal pace.
With developers of export projects looking to advance and additional import infrastructure needed, LNG financing needs are expected to remain elevated in 2026.
With many options to choose from, financiers can afford to be selective. Export projects must walk a fine line between offering competitive terms even as they struggle to contain rising project costs. Attracting customers and third-party equity is getting tougher as oversupply concerns put pressure on developers.
